Greetings! My name is Harmony Irwin, and I am thrilled to share my journey with you. Recently, I achieved a significant milestone in my professional development by becoming a certified yoga therapist through the esteemed program at Functional Synergy. This accomplishment is not just a title for me; it represents years of dedication to the practice of yoga and a deep commitment to helping others. Prior to my foray into therapeutic yoga, I completed an intensive 200-hour yoga teacher training at Grounded By Yoga studio, where I immersed myself in the foundational aspects of yoga philosophy, anatomy, and teaching methodologies. This training provided me with the essential skills and knowledge to guide others in their yoga journeys. Previously and for the past 18 years, I devoted my career to working in long-term care as a therapeutic recreation specialist. In this role, I was responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing a variety of therapeutic and meaningful life activities tailored specifically for a senior population. This experience was incredibly fulfilling for me, as I had the opportunity to witness firsthand the positive impact of engaging activities on the lives of older adults. I found immense joy in creating programs that not only entertained but also enriched their lives, fostering a sense of community and belonging. However, as time went on, I began to notice a shift in the mission of the organization I was part of, which I perceived to be moving in a direction that was not aligned with my values and vision for care. This realization sparked a profound curiosity within me about how I could channel my passion for yoga into a different, more meaningful career path. From a young age, I have always identified as a helper, a caregiver at heart. This intrinsic desire to support and uplift others has guided my choices throughout my life. I realized that my journey would not stop at simply teaching yoga; I wanted to delve deeper and apply the principles of yoga in a more therapeutic and individualized manner. While attending a traditional yoga class is undoubtedly beneficial and can be therapeutic in its own right, I discovered that yoga therapy offers a distinct approach. It allows for a more personalized experience, where I can work closely with individuals to address their unique needs and challenges. This aspect of yoga therapy truly excites me, as it enables me to provide focused, individual attention to a select number of clients, creating a space where I can be fully present in a co-healing partnership. This collaborative relationship not only facilitates healing but also fosters a deeper understanding of the mind-body connection, which is essential for holistic well-being. I am eager to embark on this new chapter of my life, where I can combine my background in therapeutic recreation with my yoga expertise to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those I serve.
